Sirens Cove at Treasure Island has been drained nearly dry as maintenance is being done in the hotel’s famed lagoon.

We figured it was time to check on the progress.

Land ho! And, no, we have no idea what "ho" means in this context.

As a result of the construction and maintenance, the free, hugely popular “Siren’s of TI” show will be closed through Dec. 30, 2013.

"Construction
Don’t panic. Construction has not affected the liver damage taking place nightly at Senor Frog’s.

Big chunks of Sirens Cove are being removed to accommodate a new three-story shopping complex at TI.

The shopping area is set to be completed in the fall of 2014, and will be at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard South and Spring Mountain Road.

"This
This area can’t be photographed due to tight security and tall construction walls. (Do you know this blog at all?)

The first tenant announced for TI’s new shopping space is CVS pharmacy. Because if you’re going to miss out on seeing scantily-clad young women dancing in their pirate underwear, it had better be because you’re building a pharmacy.

Having the lagoon drained provides a fascinating look at the inner workings of the “Sirens of TI” show, as much of it’s typically under water.

For example, to make way for the shopping center, the track that guides one of the pirate ships is being shortened.

"This
This ship’s journey will soon be shorter to make room for a 46,000-square-foot mall.

Also exposed are underwater caves and wood pilings.

"Yes,
Yes, there’s an echo. Yes, there’s an echo.

There are also thousands of coins tossed into the lagoon for good luck, now more exposed than the midriffs of the Sirens.

"We'd
We’d be happy to pick those up for you, TI.

Construction hasn’t caused much disruption to the flow of pedestrian traffic in and out of the hotel, thankfully.

Cool hidden door. Time to call in the Goonies.

Oh, and while shopping is fine, Treasure Island, we’d like our Sirens back soon, please, thanks.
