SugarHouse review summary
SugarHouse online casino, also known as PlaySugarHouse, is named after the physical SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia. It was founded in 2006, and for more than 15 years it was one of the most popular gambling betting establishments, before eventually rebranding as Rivers Casino. But the SugarHouse name lives on online in New Jersey and Connecticut and it’s packed full of sweet treats. From multiple welcome bonuses and bonus bets to live dealer games, we’ve got everything you need to know about SugarHouse online casino covered here.
Pros
- Just 1x wagering requirement on bonus money?
- Excellent live dealer options????
- Claim a bonus on your first four deposits
- Fast and free banking options
Cons
- Progressive jackpots on the smaller side
- Live chat not available 24/7
Software and range of games
SugarHouse has deals with a number of different software providers, meaning its gaming menu has a diverse feel. In total there are more than 1,000 different games on the menu, with slots making up the vast majority. They include more than fifteen games with progressive jackpots, although the top prize available when we carried out our SugarHouse review was around $25,000 - not the largest we’ve ever seen.
The games are split up by category, with separate lists for slots, table games, live dealers, video poker, and more. You can also filter the list by software providers, or by the most popular titles. Plus, there’s a search bar, which is handy if you have something particular in mind.
Although fairly easy to use, there is a lot going on with the SugarHouse site, with different advertisements crowding the page at times. We would prefer to see this streamlined a little more to keep the focus on the games.
Slots
SugarHouse has tons of slots. They include some of the all-time classics, like Starburst and Gonzo’s Quest, along with official slot partners of classic TV shows and movies, like Narcos and Jumanji. Every single game on the menu has a pop out info button you can click before you actually open it. Here you’ll find a quick fact file about the game including special features, limits and software provider. It’s a nice touch that makes it easier to browse the games without having to play them all. We did think one thing that could improve the slot menu would be the ability to filter it by theme, since there are so many.
Table games
SugarHouse also has a solid selection of table games: roulette, blackjack tables, video poker, baccarat, craps and more. There is no roulette category in the gaming menu, but you can find several different types under the table games tab. The table games selection at this casino is more or less just right: multiple tables and variations for the most popular games but no unnecessary duplicates crowding the menu.
Live casino
The live dealer games at SugarHouse are powered by Evolution, regarded by many as the market leader in live dealer technology. There are great live versions of the classics like blackjack and roulette, but we also love the game show style live games they have come up with, like Dream Catcher. This kind of game is a fun alternative to the more traditional casino games, and the Evolution hosts are great at creating a fun and high energy atmosphere.
Bonuses and promotions at SugarHouse
The promotions section is one of the highlights of SugarHouse casino. Unlike some casinos which only exist online, SugarHouse was born from the live experience, so the platform has a strong understanding of how to excite gambling fans with special offers. First up is the SugarHouse welcome bonus package, which is a 100% boost worth up to $250 on your first deposit, and another $175 spread over your next three deposits. The bonus cash comes with very reasonable 1x wagering requirements too.
But the welcome bonus is just the tip of the iceberg. There are also bonuses for existing players, including happy hour slots, where you get 2x the Loyalty and Bonus Store Points at selected times, free bingo on Mondays, sports betting bonuses and more. We’re giving SugarHouse a great score for bonuses. Be sure to read up on all bonus terms and conditions on the SugarHouse site before claiming.
VIP rewards
In addition to the regular bonuses, SugarHouse has a VIP program called iRush Rewards. Every time you play a real money game, you’ll earn both Loyalty Level Points and Bonus Store Points. The former helps you graduate through the tiers of the rewards program, while the latter can be cashed in for prizes. It’s nice to have a little extra incentive as you play, but it’s true that the top prizes will only be within reach of high rollers.
SugarHouse banking options
It’s a case of the more options the better when it comes to banking, and SugarHouse has a nicely rounded selection of payment methods that should cover everyone. You can choose between Online Banking/ACH, Credit or Debit Cards, PayNearMe, SugarHouse Play+ Card and PayPal. Depending on your location, you can also make instant deposits and withdrawals in cash at selected casinos, like the Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City for example.
SugarHouse prefers users to withdraw funds using the same method they deposited with, which is quite common at online casinos. Of all the methods the SugarHouse Play+ Card is the quickest, with withdrawals taking up to 24 hours. PayPal is also fast, while bank transfers can take between 2-6 days. All the payment methods worked well for us when tested during our SugarHouse review, so we’ve no real complaints here.
Security and fair play
SugarHouse Casino is available in New Jersey, but its sister platform BetRivers is available in a further eleven states. SugarHouse also offers lottery and sports betting in Connecticut. If you have an account with both, you can also link them. SugarHouse has attained a unique license for each separate state it operates in, as well as a partnership with a local casino. In New Jersey, for example, the site is regulated by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, and you can deposit and withdraw cash at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City.
Both SugarHouse and BetRivers are big names in US gambling, with lots of experience and solid reputations in the gambling world. In addition to this, data is encrypted and games are tested for fairness, so we don’t have any concerns over security or player safety.
SugarHouse has good customer support services too. You have access to a detailed help section along with email, phone and live chat support. One minor issue is the fact that the live chat is not 24 hours, and instead runs 09:30am - 02:00am.

Mobile play
SugarHouse’s platform is mobile optimized, so if you visit the site using your phone’s browser you’ll find it adapts to the small screen. However, the best way to play on mobile is via the SugarHouse app, which you can download for iPhone and Android. You can find it in app stores, but you’ll have to search for the PlaySugarHouse Sportsbook in the App store - the casino comes as part of the sports betting platform. We enjoyed using the app during our tests. It’s true that the sportsbook is given more real estate, but the games all worked perfectly and looked great on the smaller screen.
Conclusion
Between the SugarHouse and BetRivers skins, SugarHouse is already up and running in a number of states, with more expected down the line. It makes the site perfect for anyone likely to play while travelling, and the variety of simple, easy-to-use banking methods means it’s very beginner friendly too. We love the promotions, with lots going on beyond the welcome bonus package. Best of all is the generous 1x wagering requirement on all bonuses, so you won’t have to spend huge sums to release the bonus funds. The software is pretty good without being spectacular, but the gaming menu is very deep. The live dealer options, powered by Evolution, are excellent and up there with any site in NJ or further afield. Overall, we were impressed. Click the link to check out SugarHouse for yourself.
