Sports betting is coming to Washington DC, but it\u2019ll have to wait after council members postponed a key decision which would have seen them fast track the process.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, councilors were on the verge of voting to award the contract to operate its sports betting venture. The problem – at least for some – is that decision would have seen them bypassing the procurement process, and simply awarding the lucrative contract to the sole bidder instead.<\/p>\n

That bidder is Intralot, a Greek-based company which has been running DC\u2019s lottery for the last 10 years. But at the last minute, councilors balked and backed out the the vote.<\/p>\n
