A new day has come for Celine Dion. According to TMZ,<\/em> the Canadian superstar is in the \u201cfinal stages\u201d of negotiating a contract to finally appear at Resorts World Las Vegas, where she was scheduled to begin a residency in November 2021.<\/p>\n

As everyone reading this knows, Dion had to scuttle that engagement due to a devastating neurological condition. Katy Perry eventually replaced her.<\/p>\n

Citing \u201cmultiple sources with direct knowledge,\u201d TMZ<\/em> reports that Dion\u2019s new residency will begin either in late 2024 or early 2025, and isn’t likely to last as long as either of Dion\u2019s two Caesars Palace residencies. (“A New Day” featured 714 shows from 2003-2007, “Celine” featured 427 from 2011 to 2019.)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cCarrie Underwood is there now,\u201d the gossip website reports, \u201cand it\u2019s no coincidence Carrie\u2019s run ends this November.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her Shows Will Go On<\/h2>\n

Dion, 56, says she has been struggling with Stiff Person Syndrome, which affects fewer than one in a million people, since 2008. Though it was not correctly diagnosed until 2021, she says it gave her vocal problems throughout her second residency at Caesars Palace’s Colosseum.<\/p>\n

Painful spasms constricted Dion\u2019s voice, cutting off her access to her higher notes and forcing her to lower the keys of some songs.<\/p>\n

When asked what might happen if the disorder flared up during her new residency, one of TMZ<\/em>\u2019s sources stated: \u201cShe\u2019s just prepared to power through it. It won\u2019t stop her from performing.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, as anyone knows who watched the recent Amazon Prime documentary, \u201cI Am: Celine,\u201d that statement seems overly optimistic. The doc showed the \u201cMy Heart Will Go On\u201d suffering a painful, 10-minute, full-body spasm as a result of the exertion just from recording a new song.<\/p>\n

More likely, the Resorts World audience will be allowed to watch Dion battle a spasm in real time on stage, which could provide an experience much more uniquely moving than a routine concert.<\/p>\n

For the time being, all the world\u2019s eyes will be on Dion on Friday, when she is set to perform a duet with Lady Gaga, on Edith Piaf\u2019s \u201cLa Vie en Rose,\u201d to open the Summer Olympics in Paris.<\/a> (Gaga sang the tune in her 2018 movie, \u201cA Star is Born.\u201d)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
