(Image: Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>The banner was then spit out of the slot machine\u2019s top like a winning casino voucher.<\/p>\r\n<p>Unlike real slots, there was no chance of this machine getting hacked. The prop was powered by an old-school tech: human beings.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"callout\">\r\n<p>According to <em>The Athletic,<\/em> the wheel animations, shown on three vertically situated 60-inch flat-screen TVs, were activated not by the lever, but by a button manned by Golden Knights VP Andrew Abrams, who stood in the Zamboni tunnel. The slot sounds were controlled by the arena DJ, and a rigging crew hoisted the banner based on cues called out by Tyler Ferraro, the team\u2019s senior manager of entertainment experience, who sat in the stands.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s what\u2019s really cool about that moment specifically,\u201d Ferraro told\u00a0<em>The Athletic<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s a culmination of every department of the team working together to make this one very, very important moment happen, and everyone crushed it.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Check out the video:\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6mjTkLY6QYE?si=cpoubYl4X8Fe7GJB\" width=\"355\" height=\"200\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n<p>The slots banner was Abrams\u2019 idea. He thought of it while washing dishes at home earlier this year in the middle of the Golden Knights\u2019 playoff run.<\/p>\r\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\r\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018If we win this thing, what if the banner box was a slot machine?\u2019\u201d Abrams told <em>The Athletic.<\/em> \u201cThat thought just popped into my head, but I filed it away. At that point, you can\u2019t go around saying \u2018Hey guys, if we win this thing, wouldn\u2019t it be cool?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:heading --><\/p>\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pregame On<\/h2>\r\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\r\n<p>The team\u2019s pregame shows have become Vegas shows in and of themselves. Since entering the NHL in the fall of 2017, every home contest is preceded by an elaborate theatrical performance. Lasting up to 10 minutes, it consists of clips detailing the &#8220;battle&#8221; ahead and an on-ice production, heavy on special effects, centered around an actor dressed as a sword-wielding golden knight.<\/p>\r\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\r\n<div class=\"callout\">\r\n<p>According to <em>The Athletic,<\/em> the hockey team now employs a full-time entertainment team of 13, plus four people who work cameras and edit, three who handle motion graphics, and a team of about 100 controlling the lights, audio, and rigging on game days.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\r\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve gotten six years now of fan buy-in for these crazy hijinks that we do before the game,\u201d Ferraro told <em>The Athletic.<\/em> \u201cKnowing that the fans have our back means a lot, and knowing that we\u2019re in the most entertaining city in the world.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\r\n<h2>How to Top a Pregame Show Like That<\/h2>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-size: revert; color: initial;\">There\u2019s only one way, and the Golden Knights nailed it.
