The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation received approval from the federal government to proceed with sports betting this year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kansas last month amended its Class III Tribal-State Gaming Compact with the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. That allows the tribe to offer sports betting at its casino on tribal land in Mayetta, Kansas, about 25 miles north of Topeka.<\/p>\n<p>The US Interior Department\u2019s Bureau of Indian Affairs Tuesday published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2023\/07\/18\/2023-15139\/indian-gaming-approval-by-operation-of-law-of-amendment-to-class-iii-tribal-state-gaming-compact\">notice in the <i>Federal Register<\/i><\/a> approving the compact amendment and allowing it to go into effect immediately.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p>The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/kansas-tribe-to-become-first-in-state-to-offer-sports-betting\/\">first tribe in Kansas<\/a> to be approved to offer a sportsbook, and it aims to launch its sportsbook by the fourth quarter of this year. Tribal Council Chairman Joseph \u201cZeke\u201d Rupnick told a local television station that the sportsbook could open as soon as September.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>If all goes according to plan, bettors should be able to place bets on most NFL and college football games this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInitially, we\u2019re going to have a sports betting room that\u2019s going to be located in the casino, and our hope is going to be to offer up a mobile app,\u201d Rupnick told <a href=\"https:\/\/fox4kc.com\/news\/kansas-news\/kansas-tribal-casino-gets-sports-betting-approval-quick-launch-expected\/\" class=\"broken_link\">Kansas City-based <em>Fox 4<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Level Playing Field<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Kansas legalized sports betting at its commercial casinos last year, and Rupnick said he looks forward to being on the \u201csame playing field\u201d as those competitors.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"main-blockquote\"><p><strong>To be honest with you, it was a quite cumbersome process, and I didn\u2019t really think it was going to get it done this year,\u201d<\/strong> Rupnick told the<em> Fox<\/em> affilate. <strong>\u201cBut thanks to the governor\u2019s staff, their leadership, along with the leadership of the elected members of the House and Senate, we were able to get this done.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sports betting in Kansas began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/kansas-announces-approved-sportsbook-operators\/\">in September 2022<\/a>, and available operators include Barstool Sportsbook, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, FanDuel, and PointsBet.<\/p>\n<p>Sportsbooks settled more than $98 million in wagers to generate $4 million of revenue in June, the most recent month for which data is available, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kslottery.com\/media\/3992\/sports-wagering-monthly-revenue-2023-06.pdf\">according to the Kansas Lottery<\/a>.
