But it looks like the gaming hub will be home to a team from the NBA\u2019s G League &#8212; the association\u2019s developmental arm.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_219846\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-219846\" data-style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-219846\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/DLC-142x80.jpg\" alt=\"G League Ignite\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" \/><figcaption  id=\"caption-attachment-219846\"class=\"text-description\">Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada. (Image: City of Henderson)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NBA G League Ignite reportedly filed paperwork to leave its current headquarters in Northern California, becoming the latest entity to flee that state for Nevada. It\u2019s expected the team will relocate to Henderson, a suburb of Las Vegas, where it will play at the Dollar Loan Center.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p>While Las Vegas is home to two professional franchises from the big four North American sports leagues &#8212; the NFL\u2019s Raiders and the NHL\u2019s Vegas Golden Knights &#8212; the largest domestic gaming center also features a robust roster of minor league squads and teams from smaller sports. For example, the city is home to the Golden Knights minor league club &#8212; the Silver Knights &#8212; and the Las Vegas Aviators &#8212; the Triple-A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/as-las-vegas-move-looks-unlikely-after-san-francisco-vote\/\">affiliate of the Oakland Athletics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The city also annually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/nba-draft-round-up-rookies-gear-up-for-vegas\/\">hosts the NBA\u2019s<\/a> Las Vegas Summer League. That kicks off on July 7. The Los Angeles Lakers are also playing two preseason games in Sin City in October.<\/p>\n<h2>Not an NBA Team, But\u2026<\/h2>\n<p>Las Vegas has long been a hotbed of NBA expansion speculation. But Commissioner Adam Silver recently rained on that parade. In praising Sin City and Seattle as fine sports towns, Silver said the association has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/silver-halts-nba-las-vegas-rumors-in-pre-finals-press-conference\/\">no imminent plans to expand<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He did, however, acknowledge the league will add teams at some point. Though Silver did not say so himself, it\u2019s almost a foregone conclusion that when the NBA expands, it will be in Las Vegas and Seattle.<\/p>\n<p>While a minor league basketball team isn\u2019t adequate compensation for missing out on an NBA franchise, G League Ignite isn\u2019t the run-of-the-mill quasi-pro team.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"main-blockquote\"><p>The roster includes elite players who are eligible for the NBA Draft, as well as NBA and NBA G League veterans who serve as mentors to the team\u2019s young talent. The program focuses on high-level competition and accelerated on-court development for players who are beginning their professional careers,\u201d according to the club.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In other words, fans in Las Vegas will likely see future NBA stars on the Ignite roster. Three former Ignite players were selected in the most recent NBA Draft, including two in the first round.<\/p>\n<h2>Potential Audition<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s unlikely that Las Vegas landing the G League Ignite is an audition for an NBA team. The association\u2019s current television rights deal has three years left on it, making expansion prior to that expiration unlikely and difficult.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, not only is the infrastructure in the works to support an NBA franchise, Las Vegas has already proven itself to be a credible home city for major pro sports teams.
