But at least three people were injured during the confusion and associated trampling. An estimated hundreds to thousands of anxious attendees rushed to exits for their safety,<em> TMZ<\/em> and <em>Variety<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_213583\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-213583\" data-style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-213583\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/festival-142x80.jpg\" alt=\"\u201cLovers &amp; Friends\u201d weekend concert at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" \/><figcaption  id=\"caption-attachment-213583\"class=\"text-description\">&#8220;Lovers &amp; Friends&#8221; weekend concert audience at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, pictured above. (Image: <em>KVVU<\/em>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Three concertgoers suffered minor injuries in the incident. They still required medical attention. They were transported to a local hospital. Their current conditions were unavailable today.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p>Many audience members, upon hearing what they thought was gunfire, fled the concert grounds at about 10:30 pm, <em>KLAS<\/em>, a local TV station, reported.<em> TMZ<\/em> described it as a \u201cstampede.\u201d But soon after leaving the festival grounds, audience members appeared relaxed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The show stopped temporarily during the confusion on its first day. It soon resumed. The two-day concert continues today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLas Vegas Metro PD investigated reports of a security incident and determined there was a false alarm. The festival has been given clearance to continue. We\u2019d like to thank the local authorities for their quick response,\u201d festival organizers reported in a statement.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p>A \u201creport of gunfire heard near the festival was deemed unfounded. At this time, there is no evidence of a shooting,\u201d the LVMPD further tweeted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Las Vegas Festival Grounds is located on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip. It holds about 85,000 people. Phil Ruffin owns the open-air facility. Circus-Circus is nearby.<\/p>\n<h2>Usher Among Headliners<\/h2>\n<p>Among the featured performers this weekend are Usher, Lauryn Hill, Ludacris, Ne-Yo, TLC, as well as several R&amp;B and Hip-Hop musicians from the 1990s.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the large audience, traffic is not allowed on South Las Vegas Boulevard for the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Lovers &amp; Friends Festival&#8221; is operated by Live Nation.<\/p>\n<h2>Deadly Memories<\/h2>\n<p>Given the prior mass shooting on the Las Vegas Strip, police and the public likely remain on edge as the concert continues.<\/p>\n<p>It was close to five years ago, on Oct. 1, 2017, Stephen Paddock opened fire from the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay hotel on the audience attending the Route 91 Harvest country music festival. He sprayed bullets at the crowd of concertgoers below and across the Strip from his suite.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds were either wounded or killed. Paddock committed suicide before police could arrest him. Police never disclosed a motive for the shooting. It has become the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p>MGM Resorts International, which owned Mandalay Bay, settled litigation arising from the mass shooting for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/las-vegas-court-approves-800m-settlement-october-2017-victims\/\">$800 million<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/mgm-resorts-named-in-lawsuits-representing-450-shooting-victims\">Live Nation<\/a> was among the concert organizers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>A general theme of the litigation was that defendants failed to adequately protect concertgoers.
