Governor Urges Caution<\/h2>\n
The governor said in a statement on his website that he was lifting the mask mandate because of the increased vaccine supply in Louisiana and the improvement in COVID-19 hospitalizations. The policy went into effect on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
More than 25 percent of Louisiana residents are fully vaccinated, according to the governor\u2019s website. This includes two-thirds of residents 65 and older.<\/p>\n
Edwards said local authorities and business owners can set their own mask policies. Masks are still required statewide \u201con public transit and in state government buildings, K-12 schools, early childhood education centers, colleges and universities, and health care facilities,\u201d the website states.<\/span><\/p>\n\nWe know masks work,\u201d Edwards said. \u201cThe science is clear, and we\u2019ve seen the positive impact in our own state.”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\nThe governor stressed that this change does not mean the pandemic has ended. Edwards said he will exercise caution in his approach to mask-wearing.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cLouisianans should respect each other and businesses and places where masks will be required as we move into a new phase of slowing the spread of COVID-19 in our communities,\u201d he said. \u201cI will continue to wear a mask in government buildings and in public, especially when I do not know if someone around me has been vaccinated, and I encourage everyone to do this as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
