Sportsbooks have been scrambling for new sports to ofzfer wagering on during the coronavirus pandemic, with some seeing chess betting as one of the best remaining options. But as soon as one major bookmaker got permission to add chess markets<\/a>, the opportunity dried up \u2013 literally, overnight.<\/p>\n

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) suspended play at the Candidates Tournament before Thursday\u2019s Round 8, less than two days after William Hill started to accept chess betting in Nevada.<\/p>\n

COVID-19 Restrictions Postpone Candidates Tournament<\/strong><\/h2>\n

That allowed William Hill to put lines on the Round 7 games at the Candidates Tournament on Wednesday. The bookmaker also posted lines for Thursday’s games, but FIDE stopped the tournament before Round 8.<\/p>\n
