\u2018Domestic Terrorism\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\nLast November, BIA definitively recognized Halftown as the federal representative of the tribe and his council as \u201cthe nation\u2019s government for all purposes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Emboldened by that decision, Halftown took extraordinary steps last weekend. The tribal council claims it was \u201ctaking possession\u201d of properties that had been stolen from the tribe in 2014 by flattening them.<\/p>\n
It added that it did not want the buildings to \u201cbecome a target for any further friction in the community going forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
One Seneca County official, Robert Hayssen, called it \u201cdomestic terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n
US Sen. Charles Schumer (D) says he believes federal agencies must intervene.<\/p>\n
