The San Francisco 49ers are co-favorites to win Super Bowl LVIII at +550 odds after they began the season with a 4-0 record.
The 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles are the only remaining undefeated teams heading into Week 5. Both unbeaten teams met in the NFC Championship last season, where the Eagles defeated the 49ers to secure a spot in Super Bowl LVII.
Four teams in the NFC have a 3-1 record, including the Lions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Dallas Cowboys.
The defending champion Kansas City Chiefs lost the first game of the season when the Detroit Lions pulled off a narrow upset on “Thursday Night Football” to kick off the season. The Chiefs won three games in a row and are tied for the best record in the AFC at 3-1. They’re co-favorites with the 49ers to win the Super Bowl at +550 odds.
The Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins are the other 3-1 squads from the AFC. The AFC doesn’t have any undefeated teams heading into October this season.
The Chiefs were the preseason favorite to win the Super Bowl at +600 odds, followed by the Super Bowl runner-up Eagles (+650), the Bills (+900), and the 49ers (+1000).
Public Backing 49ers in All NFL Futures
After the Chiefs faltered in the season’s first game, they slipped to +700 odds. The 49ers cruised to an easy 30-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1, leapfrogging from fourth on the futures board into the top spot at +650 odds to win the Super Bowl.
The 49ers held off its NFC West division rival, the Los Angeles Rams, in a 30-23 victory in Week 2. They barely broke a sweat in a 30-12 win against the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football?in Week 3. After a 3-0 start, the 49ers saw their odds slightly narrow to +600.
The 49ers remained undefeated with a 35-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4. They improved to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in divisional play. The 49ers now share the top slot with the Chiefs and are +550 odds to win the Super Bowl.
The 49ers also saw their overall futures improve in conference and divisional odds. They opened the season at +380 odds to win the NFC Championship, but they’re now +200 odds. The 49ers were the consensus favorite to win the NFC West during the preseason at -195 odds. They’re now the largest divisional favorite on the board at -550 odds.
Before the season began, oddsmakers installed the 49ers with a win total of 10.5 over/under. That number has increased to 12.5 o/u after their unblemished start.
CMAC Attack, Perfect Purdy
A healthy Christian McCaffery continues to dominate the gridiron, and the dual-threat running back torched the Cardinals for four touchdowns in Week 4.
McCaffery contributed 600 yards from scrimmage in the first four games, and he’s on pace to surpass 2,500 combined yards this season. He has 80 carries for 459 yards, six rushing touchdowns, and 18 catches for 141 yards and one touchdown reception.
Quarterback Brock Purdy was a rookie backup last season but started the last five games of the season when Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a foot injury. Purdy finished last season with a perfect 5-0 record. He led the 49ers to four wins at the start of this season. He has not lost a regular-season game and improved to 9-0 as a starter.
Purdy tore his UCL in the NFC Championship but returned from off-season elbow surgery. In his second season with the 49ers, Purdy completed 72.3% of his passes for 1,019 yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also added two rushing scores.
On Deck: Dallas Rematch, Smashmouth Double-Dip
The 49ers play two primetime games in October against the Dallas Cowboys (3-1) on Sunday Night Football in Week 5, and they visit the Minnesota Vikings (1-3) for a Monday Night Football?throwdown in Week 7.
In October, the 49ers also play two games against AFC North “smashmouth” teams. They head to Cleveland to play the Browns (2-2) in Week 6 and host Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals (1-3) in Week 8.
The 49ers face their first big season test this Sunday night against the Cowboys. They opened as a -3.5 favorite at home. The Cowboys and the 49ers are 3-1 against the point spread this season.
The Cowboys have revenge on their minds when they fly to Santa Clara for a rematch of last year’s NFC divisional round. The 49ers edged out the Cowboys, 19-12, to advance to the NFC Championship.
