The Mellody Lounge on New Dorp Lane was owned by Tommy & Joey Bilotti. I was twenty years old, when my girlfriends and I entered a Lounge for the first time. Both Tommy and Joey were bouncers and would often break-up fights. I never liked knowing someone was getting hit. Tommy walked up to me, introduced himself and said, if anyone ever bothers you, you come tell me and I’ll take care of them!
I learned years later that when Tommy found out my father died when I was a year old, he took it upon himself to be my protector. I never asked for his help, there wasn’t any romantic overtures. No man had ever said that before, or after to me. I have kind memories of Tom. JMS
