The terms \u201cgeek\u201d, \u201cnerd\u201d, or \u201cdork\u201d used to be accompanied with an L to the forehead, but as it turns out, these so-called nerds now run the world. Nerd culture has become largely mainstream in a number of ways and we\u2019re here to unmask just how. Beyond this, we\u2019re shining a spotlight on what kind of nerds live where, what they do for work, and the fandom they\u2019re following. Now that\u2019s something to nerd out about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Geek Pride Day, on May 25, marks a day of dorky devotion. Star Trek signs are welcomed and Harry Potter quotes are encouraged on this special day. Ahead of such a fun festivity, we ran a survey asking 2,000 Americans their thoughts on nerd culture, how they celebrate it, and what truly makes a “nerd.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Key Findings:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Let\u2019s get things straight: not all geeks are the same. We\u2019ve got our bookworms, our techies, our trekkies, and so forth. It\u2019s important to distinguish the dorks from their quirks. We decided to look at this from a state-by-state point of view first to determine the dorky divisions across the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
