a bet that\nhad cost me a round of drinks and shot to my ego but had since repaid me with a\nfew free beers and lunches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s the pitch:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We each begin with a shot glass filled with our\nfavourite tipple and two coins, both heads side up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/PHOTO-2020-12-17-09-16-53-4-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Shot glass and two coins\" class=\"wp-image-25842\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/PHOTO-2020-12-17-09-16-53-4-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/PHOTO-2020-12-17-09-16-53-4-148x111.jpg 148w, https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/PHOTO-2020-12-17-09-16-53-4-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/PHOTO-2020-12-17-09-16-53-4-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/PHOTO-2020-12-17-09-16-53-4-1100x825.jpg 1100w, https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/PHOTO-2020-12-17-09-16-53-4-480x360.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/PHOTO-2020-12-17-09-16-53-4.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The challenge is for the sucker to do exactly\nwhat I do for five phases of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s it: do <em>exactly what I do,<\/em> and you win\nthe game and your choice of poison from the bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before we start, we each lay out our glass and\ncoins in the same fashion, with the heads up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without saying a word, I pick up my glass, move\na coin aside and place it between the coins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sucker repeats this exactly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I turn one of the coins, so it is tails-up, and\nplace it on top of the other coin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sucker does the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I now drink the entire shot and replace the\nglass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sucker does the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I drop both coins into the glass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sucker repeats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I then pick up the glass and spit the shot &#8211;\nwhich I never swallowed &#8211; back into the glass and replace it on the table or\nbar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sucker, having actually drunk his shot, is\nforced to concede and reach for his wallet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This makes for an entertaining and surprising\nstunt and almost always elicits a laugh as well as a few free drinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How To Beat People Who Know This Trick<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first bet (pints vs shots) is very difficult\nto beat, even if you know the secret.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So if the sucker accepts that proposition you\ncan be pretty sure he or she is going to lose so long as they don\u2019t try to\nchange the conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second, however, is the kind of bet that can\nkick you in the back if the sucker is already wise to it but there\u2019s a simple\nway to beat someone who already knows the con. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, let\u2019s talk about how to deal with an\noverly suspicious or challenging opponent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many times, when making friendly wagers for low\nstakes (like a drink or a sandwich) you will find yourself faced with someone\nwho tries to interrogate every detail of your proposition, which can make the\nwhole exercise both difficult and unpleasant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have the personality quirk to do so, it\nis possible to manipulate people in these circumstances by distracting their\nsuspicions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the case of \u201cDo As I Do\u201d, I like to put a\nlittle extra stress on the orientation of the coins in order to distract the\nsucker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will sometimes show the head and tail of one coin while showing only the head of the other. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I turn the second coin to show tails, I deliberately cover the tail side with my finger as I say \u201cheads on this side, tails on this side\u201d but it never fools a suspicious sucker who is suddenly obsessed by the missing side of that coin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I promise they can examine everything at the end\nbut stress that neither of us can touch each other\u2019s glass or coins (an\nadditional condition to distract their thinking).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If they are really suspicious about the coins, I\nalready know they probably don\u2019t know this trick and can continue with\nconfidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If I get a sense that the mark does know this\nbetcha than I have another trick up my sleeve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When picking up the two coins, I palm one as I\napparently drop both into the glass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, only one is dropped while the other\nremains in my hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a skill you\u2019ll need to learn but if you\ncan naturally hold one coin in your hand without cramping or looking like your\nhand has been trapped in time, you simply appear to pick up the coins and toss\nthem both into the glass but only one is allowed to fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If done smoothly, dropping the coin into the\nglass and then spitting out the drink, the sucker never suspects that only one\ncoin was dropped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After spitting out the shot I never swallowed,\nif the sucker does the same, I proceed to pull the palmed coin from the bottom\nof the glass!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the sucker ever does the same, I\u2019d happily\nbuy him or her a round of drinks and congratulate him on having read this\narticle!*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*Unless I happen to have a third kicker not\ndescribed here\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It only seems fair that readers of this blog deserve a few free drinks.
